Other than getting (and keeping) customers, one of the biggest challenges a retail business can face is keeping their store organized. You don’t want to overwhelm your customer, but you also don’t want them to think you don’t have anything stocked, right? If you’re having a hard time organizing your retail space, we’ve got some tips here to get you started:

Make A Good Floor Plan

As it is with your house, knowing how much space you have to work with is an ideal starting point for organizing your retail space. Map out your floor plan and figure out what kind of storage solutions you need to fill the available space you have while allowing your customers room to actually walk around and look at everything you have. This will also help prevent issues with crowded displays by making sure you know exactly how much room you have to work with as far as inventory and fixtures are concerned.

Organize Your Layout

The next step, after mapping out your retail space, is to organize your layout and products in a way that ensures everything fits without alienating your customers or cramming too many items into one area. An ideal retail plan is one that creates a subtle path through your store to ensure customers are both encouraged to check out everything available in the store and to provide a sensible layout so that everything you stock gets its time in the spotlight. Customers aren’t going to be able to buy from you if they can’t find your products anywhere – makes sense, right?

Display Your Merchandise

After you’ve figured out how to best place and arrange your items, now would be a good time to set up some retail displays. Bring in some industrial wire shelving to set up product displays drawing your customers’ attention to new items, unusual items that they may need to see displayed (or explained) a little better, or anything you want your customers to be more interested in and knowledgeable about like sale items (or anything you need to move more of). Of course, it’s easy to go overboard with this strategy – try to keep your displays tastefully arranged and uncrowded to avoid overwhelming your customers and sending them out of the store without buying anything.

Of course, these tips can vary from store to store depending on what you stock and the space you have to work with, but keep these in mind when it comes time to reorganize your retail space and it should keep your store clean and organized – and your customers interested in buying!
