This Veteran’s Day, Shelving, Inc., wanted to honor those who have so bravely served our country the best way we knew how: with a customized storage solution. We believe organizing and optimizing a space can greatly improve one’s life, especially those that have sacrificed their mobility or other abilities while serving our country.

For 2016, we chose to give a $2,000 prize to a local veteran in the Metro Detroit area in need. The decision to select a winner was difficult. After dozens of inspirational stories shared with us, we were grateful so many people in our local community dedicated their lives to making our country safe.

The winner chosen for the shelving giveaway is Mr. James Jackson from Macomb County. Mr. Jackson was nominated by his wife, Andrea Jackson.

Mr. Jackson saw combat in operation Desert Storm and Desert Shield. He was wounded during his time of service and has been struggling with physical and mental health issues since he has been discharged. He continues to help other veterans who suffer from similar injuries by directing them to resources for help. He has since lost the use of his legs and relies on his family to care for him.

His wife, Andrea, recently experienced health challenges and Mr. Jackson did everything he possibly could to take care of her and his children during her illness.  According to Mrs. Jackson “He was my rock and he put his health challenges to the back burner to take care of me. I can never repay him for that.  I am grateful for having him.”

Shelving, Inc. will soon be meeting with Mr. & Mrs. Jackson to design and install a shelving system to make their storage space more accessible for James.
