We are constantly amazed at the ingenuity of our customers, and today is no exception. One savvy shopper knew that they wanted to create a kitchen cart for their home using our wire shelving due to it’s superior quality and unbeatable strength. What they weren’t sure of was how they could make it match their beautiful home. That’s when creativity took over.

Fabricating this small collar, our new favorite customer created the piece she needed to attach an oversized top with certain stability. After a bit of searching, she was able to get a hold of a beautiful cherry wood to become the new top to the cart. All that remained was to attach the collar onto the post, then screw the shelf into place.

The wooden top now functions as a prep table and doubles for appliance storage. With a few more accessories, this cart was complete.

Adding liners, a push cart handle (which also holds towels!), casters, and donut bumpers, this cart was set to roll! But our beloved customer’s creativity didn’t stop there.

Using the same method, she was able to make a second cart with a marble top. The trick was to first attach the collars to a base layer of wood. Epoxy sealant was then applied and the stone top was pressed into place.

Add a few treatments and here we have the second version, a perfected (upscale) kitchen cart! All of the wire shelving components can be found on our website. Thanks to this inspiring design, we are hoping to manufacture a similar collar in the near future.

Update: We now stock a counter top anchor that will work perfectly as the “collar” in this DIY project!

Stay tuned for exciting news in the area of product research and development!
