Every year, Shelving Inc. holds a Veteran’s Day Giveaway to honor those who have so bravely served our country. As we believe organizing and optimizing a space can greatly improve one’s life, we offer one lucky veteran $2,500 worth of custom-designed shelving.

After going through all of the deserving applicants, we announced the 2019 winner back in November: Adam Thurau!

A father of seven, Adam served in the United States Army for 10 years and was deployed three times. Coping with PTSD and currently 100% disabled, we were honored to help out this hard-working veteran and his family.

The Initial Visit

The first step was to visit Adam and his wife, Lindsay, to chat about what part of their home they were looking to organize. After our Outside Sales Representatives Chris and Travis sat down with them, they learned the couple recently moved their two daughters into their own room and were beginning to work on creating a closet area.

As their daughters are getting older, they wanted to give them a separate space that’s all their own – and that’s where we came in!

Because closet shelving can get expensive, Lindsay said this giveaway happened at the perfect time.

Once landing on this room to tackle, our team went into more detail about what types of storage they wanted. Because more and more of their wardrobe needed to be hung up, clothes rods were a must. They also wanted a spot for shoes and bins for seasonal clothing storage.

After accessing the room, taking measurements, and snapping some pictures, the real planning could begin.

Designing

Right away, our team knew that a customizable freedomRail closet system was the way to go. With shelves, cabinets and accessories to choose from, it’s a great way to have multiple storage options.

It’s also adjustable, as the hanging rails are the only part of the system that’s screwed into the wall. This way, it can grow with the family and accommodate their changing needs.

After Chris and Travis came up with the general layout, they worked with a contact from freedomRail’s company to design a drawing of the system.

Happy that this was the best configuration for the space, the items were ordered and the drawing was sent to our installation team.

The Final Product!

Our crew showed up bright and early one morning to put the system in place.

In a matter of hours, we had a closet!

They’ve started adding their clothes in and the room is really taking shape!

We’re so happy we could keep the ball rolling with this family’s goal of creating an organized, personalized space. They’re in the home stretch, just needing a coat of paint and a few final touches. Stay tuned for pictures of the completed room in the coming weeks.
